Ben Jokela on piano, Garth Vogan on bass and Charlie Cooley on drums are a trio of serious musicians. After playing a variety of gigs together over many years in many different settings, usually as a backing band, this trio has claimed its own identity.
Ben Jokela, Pianist and Keyboardist, hails originally from New Brunswick. He came to Toronto to study at Humber College where he received an honours diploma in jazz/commercial music performance with a minor in arranging. He has been working in the greater Toronto area since 1995 where he has established himself as one of the top keyboard players in the area for live or studio situations. Ben is also an established music teacher having taught music lessons since 1992. Ben now in Guelph, runs his own business – The Music House – teaching lessons and recording. Aside from this original project, Ben currently plays regularly with Virgil Scott, Heather Katz, Krista Blondin, and with The Casino Brothers Band accompanying various tribute artists in the theatre and casino circuit (perennial house band for the main stage of the world famous Collingwood Elvis Festival). Ben has also worked with many other artists including MCA Country Recording Artist Lawnie Wallace; Funk/Disco showband Downstroke, and many more.
Garth Vogan is the solid bass player you enjoy on many CD’s and has a long history of session work, theatre engagements, club work and touring. As the leader of the “Fallsview Jazz Trio” and first call on bass in many headlining bands, he maintains an active roster of corporate events, award shows and club engagements throughout the year. Garth has toured and/or recorded with: Sharon Lois & Bram (The Elephant Show) Cambian Productions, Chuck Jackson & The all Stars (Downchild Blues Band) Shirley Eikhard, Buffy Saint Marie; Harris Cole Wilde Productions; Morgan Earl Productions, CBC, Billy Graham (Howard Baer Productions) TV Ontario; US Congress of Libraries Productions, Johnny Max Band, Lessons I learned CD (Juno Nominated 2008) and many more.
Charlie Cooley is one of Canada’s most in-demand drummers.
He has performed and/or recorded with such artists as: Leonard Cohen, The Guess Who, Randy Brecker, Kellylee Evans, Long John Baldry, Anne Murray, Sass Jordan, Amanda Marshall, and The Blues Brothers (musical director – Paul Shaffer)
Charlie is also a member of the Juno Award winning world beat jazz ensemble Manteca. Manteca has performed in many territories around the world including The North Sea Jazz Festival in the Netherlands (Holland), The Canadian Pavillion at Expo in Seville – Spain, The Aspen Jazz Festival, The Playboy Jazz Festival at The Hollywood Bowl and The Pori Jazz Festival in Finland.
Charlie has been the in-house drummer for many of Canada’s award shows such as The Juno Awards, The East Coast Music Awards, The Gemini Awards, The Canadian Country Music Awards, and the Canada Day Celebrations from Parliament Hill (CBC)
