Zachary Mason, the musical moniker of UK-based artist Daniel Macintyre, is making waves in the indie music scene. Hailing from Guildford, Surrey, Mason crafts a diverse soundscape, weaving together acoustic and electric guitars with his signature keyboard melodies, all anchored by his introspective and self-penned lyrics.
Since embarking on his recording journey in March 2021 with a gifted recording kit, Mason has amassed an impressive catalog of over 190 song demos. His dedication quickly translated into a string of successful single releases. “Special People,” his debut single released in July 2023, garnered attention with placements on 10 Spotify playlists. He followed up with “No One Puts It Right” in September 2023, which earned airplay on eight radio stations, including the notable “Dünyadan Sesler,” and secured spots on 11 Spotify playlists.
“Quicksand,” released in November 2023, further solidified his presence, receiving playlist placements and radio airplay, including continued support from “Dünyadan Sesler.” Notably, “Quicksand” garnered positive feedback from industry figures like Daniel Van Eyk, Oghamyst Music, Don’s Tunes, and even earned a feature in the Spanish Rolling Stone courtesy of Pablo Monroy.
November 2023 also saw the release of Mason’s debut album, “Songs,” which has garnered praise for individual tracks and secured further playlist and radio placements. He continued his momentum with “Sweet Sunshine” in April 2024, which exploded onto the scene with airplay on over 40 radio stations, including Bay FM and “Dünyadan Sesler,” and inclusion in over 40 Spotify playlists. Industry recognition continued to pour in, including further praise from Pablo Monroy.
“I’ll Get Through,” released in August 2024, continued this trend, landing on numerous Spotify playlists and charting on indie radio charts, reaching No. 93 and No. 41. October 2024 brought the release of “Sweet Girl,” which earned a coveted spot in Spin Magazine and secured airplay on over 30 radio stations and placements on over 40 streaming playlists. His most recent release, “Fathers,” in December 2024, has been featured in numerous articles, blogs, and reviews, and has been picked up by radio stations like Bay FM, Dunyaden Sesler, and Auxois FM.
Beyond his singles, Mason has been featured in interviews with Cage Riot, Darkus Magazine, and Music Arena. His music has also caught the attention of sync supervisors, with placements in the catalogs of companies like YTINIFNI Pictures (US) and Relva Music (Brazil).
Influenced by artists like Neil Young, Bob Dylan, Thin Lizzy, and Mac DeMarco, Mason’s musical versatility shines through in his diverse catalog. Outside of music, Macintyre also explores his creative side through poetry, stories, and essays under his given name.
His newest single, “I Wish Humans Were Made In A Factory…,” is now available on all major streaming platforms, including YouTube (with a lyric video), Spotify, Apple Music, and Deezer. This light-hearted and humorous track, sure to bring a smile, features bass guitar work by John Thomasson, currently of Little Big Town, adding another layer of artistry to Mason’s growing repertoire.
